The entirely media-created, faux outrage laden Trump Wrestlemania Twitter ‘controversy’ took an interesting turn when CNN, unable to take its loss like a man, decided to threaten the individual who made the meme which the President so gleefully posted over the weekend.
Of course, CNN will interpret it differently, but a look at what happened would render their interpretation invalid. Analyzing this episode is important for various reasons, which will be made clear as I go on.
But first, to the events themselves. After Trump posted the now famous tweet heard ‘round the world, the Washington Post published this article, detailing that the GIF came from a Reddit user called ‘HanAssholeSolo,’ (HAS). It then chronicled HAS’s history of questionable posts on Reddit. Other journalists took this and began to broadcast the wrongthink of HAS all across Twitter.
Then, CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski posted this article, in which he described the fact that HAS’s real identity had been uncovered, and that CNN had been in contact with him and had received an apology. The article begins (emphasis mine):
The Reddit user who initially claimed credit for President Donald Trump’s tweet that showed Trump tackling CNN issued an apology Tuesday for the video and other offensive content he posted — one day after CNN identified the man behind the account and attempted to make contact with him.
Reddit user “HanA**holeSolo” first shared the GIF last Wednesday of Trump pummeling a wrestler with CNN’s logo imposed on his face. CNN could find no earlier instance of the GIF. The GIF was later edited into a video with sound and tweeted by the President on Sunday.
On Reddit, “HanA**holeSolo” took credit for inspiring the tweet. Soon after, “HanA**holeSolo’s” other posts on Reddit, some of which included racist and anti-Semitic imagery, quickly circulated on social media.
Now the user is apologizing, writing in a lengthy post on Reddit that he does not advocate violence against the press and expressing remorse there and in an interview with CNN for other posts he made that were racist and anti-Semitic.
The apology came after CNN’s KFile identified the man behind “HanA**holeSolo.” Using identifying information that “HanA**holeSolo” posted on Reddit, KFile was able to determine key biographical details, to find the man’s name using a Facebook search and ultimately corroborate details he had made available on Reddit.
On Monday, KFile attempted to contact the man by email and phone but he did not respond. On Tuesday, “HanA**holeSolo” posted his apology on the subreddit /The_Donald and deleted all of his other posts.
The apology (emphasis mine):
“First of all, I would like to apologize to the members of the reddit community for getting this site and this sub embroiled in a controversy that should never have happened,” he wrote. “I would also like to apologize for the posts made that were racist, bigoted, and anti-semitic. I am in no way this kind of person, I love and accept people of all walks of life and have done so for my entire life. I am not the person that the media portrays me to be in real life, I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction from the subs on reddit and never meant any of the hateful things I said in those posts. I would never support any kind of violence or actions against others simply for what they believe in, their religion, or the lifestyle they choose to have. Nor would I carry out any violence against anyone based upon that or support anyone who did.”
The user further apologized for calls for violence against the press in his statement on Reddit.
“The meme was created purely as satire, it was not meant to be a call to violence against CNN or any other news affiliation,” he wrote. “I had no idea anyone would take it and put sound to it and then have it put up on the President’s Twitter feed. It was a prank, nothing more. What the President’s feed showed was not the original post that was posted here, but loaded up somewhere else and sound added to it then sent out on Twitter. I thought it was the original post that was made and that is why I took credit for it. I have the highest respect for the journalist community and they put their lives on the line every day with the jobs that they do in reporting the news.”
And the aftermath (emphasis mine):
The apology has since been taken down by the moderators of /The_Donald subreddit.
After posting his apology, “HanA**holeSolo” called CNN’s KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, “HanA**holeSolo” sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.
CNN is not publishing “HanA**holeSolo’s” name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
There are a few threads to follow here, and I’ll do so in the ascending order of their importance to the picture at large. These threads are:
- The pettiness of CNN, and by proxy the mainstream media
- The Kmer Rouge nature of CNN, and by proxy the mainstream media
- The ultimate bankruptcy of the Postmodernism the mainstream media and those on the left advocate
In terms of pettiness, in yesterday’s post, I commented on the fact that The Media and Trump held the same sort of relation to one another as did The Dweeb and The Cool Kid did back in high school:
The saving grace for The Dweeb in high school was always that his intellectual superiority would render him the winner at life when it was all said and done. The Cool Kid maybe had a ceiling of ending up as the manager of the local auto parts store. The Cool Kid’s ultimate relationship to The Dweeb was destined to be the guy who gave some middling advice as to which snow tires The Dweeb should put on his Mercedes, which he had earned through his lawyering, banking, computering, or doctoring, and would cost three times as much as The Cool Kid earned in one year.
In the case of Trump, not only did The Cool Kid end up on top of the totem pole in terms of The Girl, The Money and The Career, he did so from within the very institutions which were meant to catapult The Dweeb into that position of superiority, such as the Ivy League. In his latest performance, he went from a real estate billionaire to the President of the United States with no political experience, again thwarting the rule-playing, convention-adhering Dweeb.
The constant media lash-out against Trump is thus on one level indicative of a deeper existential crisis. The Cool Kid, armed with little more than a Dweeb-created Twitter account, is winning again, and this time there is no positive future scenario in which The Dweeb will win to look forward to.
And so the Dweeb Media and its adherents must come and fight and is doing so with gusto.
Almost on cue, Andrew Kaczynski went and proved it by proudly chest thumping about bullying, not Trump, but the no-name Reddit user who made the GIF. Having been humiliated by Trump (The Cool Kid), and unable to take him down, they have gone after him by doing the equivalent of sabotaging The Cool Kid’s science project by sneaking into the lab after school and tampering with it.
By CNN’s own admission, doxxing HAS would lead to personal problems for him, including compromising the safety of his family. (Note that Kaczynski has previous in this department. In his prior job at BuzzFeed, he outed a random girl online who committed the crime of posting a distasteful joke on Twitter. She was summarily tormented, lost her job, and all the rest of it.)
By CNN’s admission, they tracked HAS down via his postings on Reddit and other social media, and then contacted him via phone and email, eliciting the apology.
This makes a mockery of Kaczynski’s later claim that CNN didn’t threaten HAS, but that HAS on his on volition made an apology and then phoned Kaczynski later. The bottom line is that the very fact that CNN found HAS’s real email and phone number, and then used it to contact him was indication enough that they were coming for him, let alone what was actually stated in the email.
This leads us to the fact that in this saga, CNN revealed its true Nazi/Khmer Rouge nature. In the article, Kaczynski stated that CNN would not dox HAS because he showed remorse, and expressed a hope that his actions would serve as an example for others not to emulate. This, in combination with the actual words from HAS’s apology, sound eerily like the Otto Warmbier situation.
Warmbier’s coerced confession and apology statement were strikingly similar to what HAS posted. CNN’s triumphant video declaring what a success it was in tracking down HAS and how ‘remarkable’ administering his comeuppance was sounds like ISIS or North Korea flexing its muscles with pride for taking down one of the many ‘perpetrators’ who cast great dishonor upon them.
Mind you, the GIF HAS posted that kicked this off was, and still is innocuous. It literally depicts Donald Trump fake-tackling and fake-punching a man with a CNN logo superimposed on his head, in the fake-setting of a Wrestlemania event.
According to the media, this GIF is an incitement to violence against journalists, and they declared that a journalist might get killed thanks to things such as this. Yet, not 20 days before this ‘saga,’ a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers at a baseball field.
It was later discovered that his social media was chock full of anti-Trump propaganda, including the conspiracy theory that President Trump colluded with the Russian government to steal the election. The media pushed this story harder than any other story during Trump’s nascent presidency. Yet this constant teasing of the idea that the President, and thus anyone who aided him, was a traitor, the punishment for which is usually death, does not constitute incitement of violence.
But the President posting a dank meme does constitute that, apparently. And the person who created that dank meme must be targeted for doxing. And note the implicit threat at the end of the quoted CNN passage above. Should HAS change his stance from the coerced responses he gave to CNN, CNN would be free and clear to then unleash wrath of the internet upon him by doxxing him. Thus the totalitarian mindset of CNN/the mainstream media/the postmodernist left is revealed.
The real intent was, as Kaczynski laid out, was to deter others from doing the same. To deter others from mocking CNN, from mocking the mainstream media, from mocking the progressive orthodoxy. In addition to that, the media used HAS’s other Reddit postings to shame him in to submission. This aspect of the matter highlights the fact that despite the experience of the 2016 election, the leftists have learned nothing.
They seemingly still believe that screaming RACIST, SEXIST, HOMOPHOBE, ISLAMOPHOBE at the top of their lungs is a tactic that can achieve the objective of silencing opposition. The questionable postings of HAS had absolutely nothing to do with the GIF he posted. But by bringing accusations of racism and anti-Semitism into the fray, the media thinks that it will transform the GIF of Trump pretending to tackle a fake CNN in a fake setting of Wrestlemania into an image which promotes racism.
It makes no sense, naturally. HAS, instead of posting that GIF could have posted an animated GIF showing “1+1=2.” Would CNN then find cause to soil that mathematical relationship indirectly, by noting that the individual who posted it may have said something dodgy online? Furthermore, would it have changed the reality of that fundamental relationship, or the perception of it in people’s minds?
Of course, the answer to those questions is no. But that hasn’t stopped CNN from operating on the totalitarian paradigm that if you have engaged in wrongthink on any level in the past, and then go on to post further wrongthink it doesn’t approve of, it has the right to expose your identity to the world if you do not repent and stay repentant.
It’s censorship, plain and simple. As Brendan O’Neill of Spiked-Online writes:
The message here is as clear as it is terrifying: you ridicule CNN at your peril.
If it was daft and unpresidential of Trump to tweet that meme, the mainstream media’s reaction to his tweet has been positively unhinged. The suggestion that a jokey vid showing Trump wrestling a CNN logo-head could incite real-world violence against journalists is just the classic old censorship argument: ‘The public is gullible and stupid and if they see this image / read this book / hear this song they will go out and beat someone up.’ That elitist prejudice lurks behind pretty much every attempt in history to control speech, and it lurks behind the media freakout over Trump’s tweeting of this meme, too. The media’s view of right-leaning web users, especially the younger ones who while away their days on Reddit and 4Chan and other free-for-all hangouts, has become crystal clear in recent days: it views them almost as animals, certainly as incredibly dangerous, so brain-fried and morally arrested that if they see one silly meme they might storm CNN’s HQ.
The postmodernists have been employing this philosophy for decades, constantly trying to erase history which isn’t compatible with their views, or trying to malign historical figures who contributed greatly to society, but may have held views that were not agreeable to the modern ear. Their push to silence dissenting views is articulated in this succinct passage from Herbert Marcuse, postmodern icon:
Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left. As to the scope of this tolerance and intolerance: it would extend to the stage of action as well as of discussion and propaganda, of deed as well as of word.
The hypocrisy of the left, while getting more and more obvious to neutral observers, is completely irrelevant to leftists. To them, their hypocrisy is not evidence that something about their thought process and founding principles is not right. But rather, the hypocrisy is a tool, Machiavellian in nature. The postmodern left ultimately operates on the principle that whatever feels good is good. If you’re a man who wants to cut your penis off and call yourself a woman, that is fine. If you are a man who keeps his penis but still identifies as a woman, that is fine, you can use the woman’s bathroom. Abortion at any stage, communism, illegal immigration. All fine.
To establish and preserve such a world requires constant force, and constant policing and constant slaughter. This is why a feature of every purely leftist society, from the Nazis to Stalin’s Russia to Mao’s China to the Cambodians, was the slaughter of hundreds of millions of innocent people. And in many cases, those murdered were the people who were most capable of undermining the regime. It was the intellectuals, the businessmen, the farmers and the scientists who were first in line for the slaughter. The reason was that leftists regimes needed a compliant populace.
What we’re seeing here is a similar dynamic in this war of ideology we’re in. The postmodernist, progressive regime cannot tolerate dissent, and thus must ruthlessly stamp it out. And before the rise of the internet, and more specifically social media, it was possible to do so by merely going on about how racist or sexist someone was. The person would be destroyed. No longer. In this new Trumpian age of social media, the shitposters have a megaphone which is at least as loud as that of the mainstream media, in terms of its reach. And it has a millions upon millions of active participants, owing to the nonexistent barrier to entry. It costs nothing to set up a Twitter account, YouTube channel or blog. And you can send your message to millions.
Case in point – pewdiepie:
10 million followers on Twitter, another 55 million on YouTube. His response to the CNN saga is simple sarcasm and mockery. Straight to the point, undoubtedly accurate.
The fact that the average individual can in fact push back and effectively counter the propaganda instead of dutifully ingesting it has been reframed by the propaganda pushers as damaging in and of itself. Stories of journalists getting death threats on Twitter, for example, are becoming more and more common. The purpose is to ascribe violence to what are actually dumb posts from those who disagree with political or cultural viewpoints, in order to de-legitimize those opposing views in a roundabout manner.
It is very weaselly, Dweeb-like in nature. The media behaves like that guy in the bar who talks shit, even jumping up and down menacingly (the fraudulence of such actions are revealed when he loudly implores his friends to HOLD HIM BACK from an attack he never intends to make). He escalates further until the opposition gives him an open palmed slap across the cheek. Nothing crazy, yet the cops are called and an assault charge is pressed.
That guy is universally hated, yet the media and those on the left insist on playing that role. And given the fact that even the New York Times acknowledges the increasing distaste for champagne socialists (h/t Vox Day), and their more radical brethren the postmodernists, which together make up the modern left, its days just might be numbered.
The revolution will not be televised, indeed. It will be memed.
